SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Tennis showcased its dominance on the court with a resounding 7-0 sweep over Mount Marty on Sunday (March 23) at Walz Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs won every singles and doubles match in convincing fashion, extending their strong season start, coming out on top of nine consecutive matches. Chakira Derman’s decisive singles victory clinched the match for CUNE, highlighting a day of stellar performances across the board.
Head Coach Lisa Hart and the Dawgs are 10-1 overall and 1-0 in conference bouts.
“Proud of our team and the way we came out,” said Coach Hart. “We came out with the urgency we needed to take our first conference win. We played well in doubles and it translated into singles play. Every player came out with the will to win and it showed. Now, we just have to get ready for the next conference opponent on Wednesday.”
Chakira sealed the shutout for Concordia with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win over Mount Marty’s Maria Luisa at No. 2 singles. Her victory came as no surprise after she teamed up with Alana Lopez Pagan in doubles to secure a 6-1 triumph over Camila Lopez and Kayla Marsh. Chakira won her ninth match (singles) of the season and the 18th of her career.
Mariana Molano set the tone at No. 1 singles, dispatching Maria Azul 6-1, 6-0 with precision. She carried that momentum into doubles, pairing with Ishane Derman for a 6-0 rout of Azul and Luisa. Ishane Derman mirrored her partner’s dominance, cruising past Alexandra Salazar 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 to further solidify Concordia’s grip on the match.
Alana Lopez Pagan kept the pressure on at No. 4 singles, outlasting Camila Lopez 6-3, 6-3 in a competitive battle. Her earlier doubles win with Chakira (at No. 2s) added to her standout day. Alexa Richert joined the onslaught at No. 5 singles, blanking Alessandra Lopez 6-0, 6-0, as before she had teamed with Tessa Blough for a 6-0 doubles victory over Lopez and Salazar.
Nina Milic rounded out the singles sweep at No. 6, defeating Kayla Marsh 6-2, 6-0 with steady control. The Bulldogs’ depth shone through as every player contributed to the shutout, leaving Mount Marty unable to find a foothold.
