HASTINGS, Neb. – The Concordia women’s tennis team wrapped up its regular season on Thursday afternoon, facing Hastings College. By a 5-4 decision, Concordia took the victory. The Bulldogs finish the regular season 7-14 overall and 5-3 in the GPAC. The Broncos are now 6-12 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
Head coach Joel Reckewey said, “Outstanding doubles play set the tone for an amazing conference win on the road against Hastings. We played like a team and the girls have made a name for themselves and I think the other teams in the conference are starting to recognize the Bulldogs’ presence. I am really proud of how the girls have compete this conference season and they have had to earn all of their victories. They played to win and they deserve this victory.”
The Bulldogs doubles teams swept the Broncos in all three matches. At No. 1, Hailey Lemos and Annie Horn were paired up and won 8-4. Katelinn Wurm and Kayla Smock were slotted at No. 2 and were victorious with an 8-5 score. The last doubles team made up of Hannah Boe and Katie Hertz won their match 8-2.
The GPAC tournament is up next on the Bulldogs’ slate. The tourney will take place next week on May 6-7 in Fremont, Neb. A finalized schedule will be released as it becomes available.
