Head Coach David DeSimone’s squad put a stop to what had been a four-match skid with the pulse-pounding win over the Mustangs. It ultimately came down to No. 1 singles, where Concordia freshman Sofia Morales edged Emily Clotfelter in three sets. Bulldog singles victories also came via Claudia Miranda Viera (No. 2), Luisa Esquivel (No. 5) and Ansley Gates (No. 6). The four singles wins allowed Concordia to overcome a 1-0 disadvantage after doubles (dropped the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles matches).
The Bulldogs also own wins this season over William Jewell College (Mo.), Sterling College (Kan.) and Bethany College (Kan.). Esquivel is the team leader with five singles victories. Three of her teammates own three singles wins: Katy Krejci, Miranda Viera and Morales.
Hastings defeated Concordia in the 2019 GPAC tournament title match. The Broncos got on the board with their first win of the 2021 season when they defeated Northwestern, 6-1, on March 26. Hastings is coached by Mark Gueswell.
Following Tuesday’s match, the Bulldogs will look forward to playing at Baker University (Kan.) at 1 p.m. on April 8.
