OMAHA, Neb. – The run of dominance continues for a Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Tennis squad that keeps adding to the best start in the program’s history. On Wednesday (March 26) afternoon in Omaha, the Bulldogs breezed past College of Saint Mary, 7-0, while winning each of the five contested singles and two contested doubles matches. Concordia was especially dominant in singles action with reigning GPAC Player of the Week Mariana Molano taking every game for her opponent.
Head Coach Lisa Hart’s squad has moved to 11-1 overall (2-0 GPAC) and will carry a 10-match winning streak into a home clash with Morningside on Thursday.
“I’m very proud of the way this team continues to compete and the positive mindset they bring each day,” Hart said. “I am very excited about our upcoming opportunities and looking forward to continuing to improve each day.”
Before the Bulldogs won handily in singles, they found themselves in two competitive doubles clashes. At the No. 1 spot, Molano paired with Ishane Derman on a 7-6 (7-5) win over their counterparts, Iyaanah Pardiwalla and Yana Gupta. At No. 2, Concordia’s Tessa Blough and Alexa Richert emerged victorious, 6-4. Meanwhile, the No. 3 spot was forfeited to the Bulldogs.
The strong play in singles maintained a season long theme for a Concordia squad that now boasts a 62-10 singles mark in dual matches. No opponent has managed to take down Ishane Derman (11-0), who clinched the team victory at No. 3 singles with her 6-4, 6-0, triumph over Carolyna Truong. In other contested matchups, Molano won, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1, Chakira Derman steamrolled to a 6-2, 6-0, decision at No. 2, Alana Lopez Pagan coasted to a 6-1, 6-4, win at No. 4 and Richert pummeled her foe, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5. Nina Milic was credited with a forfeit victory at No. 6.
The Flames (2-3, 0-1 GPAC) were coming off back-to-back nonconference wins over the likes of Illinois Tech and Nazareth University. In last season’s Concordia-CSM matchup played in Seward, the Bulldogs won by a 5-2 score. Concordia has now won three in a row in the series.
Hart’s squad has beaten each of its last four opponents by a 7-0 score. The Bulldogs are 8-0 in the month of March and have not tasted defeat since a 5-2 loss to McPherson College (Kan.) back on Feb. 1.
Next up, the Bulldogs will host conference favorite and reigning GPAC champion Morningside (12-5, 1-0 GPAC). The Mustangs went a perfect 7-0 in league play last season and started 1-0 in 2025 thanks to a 7-0 victory over Hastings. Thursday’s action will get underway at 12 p.m. CT from the Bulldog Tennis Courts.
