SEWARD, Neb. – Freshman Nina Milic delivered the clinching point in composed fashion, lifting Concordia University, Nebraska to a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Midland on Wednesday (April 8). In a tightly contested dual filled with momentum swings, the Bulldogs relied on poise and to secure the win despite dropping the initial doubles point.

Head Coach Lisa Hart and company are 11-5 overall and 2-1 in conference meetings.

“Proud of the way we battled back in singles,” Coach Hart said. “Our tough non-conference schedule really helped prepare our players for today. Looking forward to more opportunities this weekend.”

Milic sealed the match at No. 6 singles with a steady, confident performance, defeating Ana Larreal, 6-1, 6-2. The freshman controlled rallies with consistency and continued to make balls, keeping her composure as the deciding match unfolded and calmly closing out the victory. She ties the most wins on the season (10) with Mariana Molano.

At No. 4, Alana Lopez Pagan turned in one of the most dominant performances of the day, overpowering her opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Lopez Pagan dictated play using aggressive strokes to a swift straight-sets win.

Molano followed suit at the top of the lineup, earning a convincing 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 1 over Andrea Vasquez. The Colombian’s all-around game proved too much, as she mixed pace effectively in two frames to win her match.

At No. 2, Chakira Derman added another crucial point with a solid 6-3, 6-3 victory. Derman remained composed, using consistency to wear down her opponent. She has won the last four out of five matches.

Despite the strong singles showing, Concordia dropped the doubles point. The lone victory came at No. 2, where Chakira Derman and Lopez Pagan teamed up for an impressive 7-5 win, showcasing sharp net play as a team.

Concordia (11-5, 2-1 GPAC) will look to carry the momentum into its next matchup as the Bulldogs continue conference play versus Northwestern (10-6, 2-1 GPAC) on Saturday (April 11). CUNE will take on the Red Raiders at 1 p.m. CT. in Seward.
