SEWARD, Neb. – After helping lead Concordia University Women’s Tennis to a 5-0 GPAC mark, senior Claudia Miranda Viera has been named the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, as announced on Wednesday (April 21). This is the second career weekly honor for Miranda Viera. Teammate Sophia Morales garnered the same accolade on April 7.
During the time period considered for this award, Miranda Viera went 2-0 at both No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. Miranda Viera and Morales have been for a dominant combination at No. 1 doubles, where they took decisions by scores of 6-0 over College of Saint Mary and 6-1 over Northwestern. In her individual matches, Miranda Viera defeated her counterparts from CSM, 6-4, 6-1, and Northwestern, 6-1, 6-1.
In GPAC matches only, Miranda Viera is 5-1 in singles play. She and Morales are 5-0 in the conference when playing together at No. 1 doubles. A native of Torrejón de Ardoz in Madrid, Spain, Miranda Viera has claimed 27 singles victories in her career as a Bulldog. Concordia (8-6, 5-1 GPAC) will be back in action next Tuesday at Midland.
