SEWARD, Neb. – For her work in a pair of nonconference matches on Sunday, Mariana Molano has been honored as the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Wednesday (March 15). Molano has received the GPAC weekly honor for the first time in her career. This marks first GPAC Player of the Week announcement from the GPAC for the 2022-23 season.
A freshman from Bogotá, Colombia, Molano has immediately taken on the No. 1 spot in the singles lineup. She’s currently ranked fourth in the NAIA’s central region. Molano backed that ranking up this Sunday by taking singles victories by scores of 6-1, 6-4, at Kansas Wesleyan University and 6-1, 6-4, at Bethany College (Kan.). As part of her perfect day, Molano also teamed up with Tessa Blough at No. 1 doubles for two triumphs over their KCAC opposition. As a team, the Bulldogs defeated Kansas Wesleyan, 7-0, before being clipped by Bethany, 4-3. In dual matches, Molano has gone 6-4 in singles with all matches coming at the No. 1 spot.
Molano and Concordia Women’s Tennis (5-5) are slated to return to action at Baker University (Kan.) at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.
