SEWARD, Neb. - A surprisingly dry but windy Bulldog Tennis Courts revealed some new faces in the first home dual of the season for the Dawgs. The returners and fresh recruits combined for a 6-1 victory over Midland in a non-conference match on Thursday (Oct.1). Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Tennis has finished the fall 1-0 in dual play.
"Our team came out with a plan, a great attitude and executed in doubles and singles," Head Coach Lisa Hart commented. "Our players are very coachable and determined - I am excited to see all this team can accomplish this year!"
The Bulldogs gained ground from a season ago defeating MU with a 4-3 slight edge in the spring 2026.
Graduate student Alexa Richert at No. 4 put the final nail in the coffin with a consecutive set victory over the Warriors’ Lillie Johnston (6-3, 6-1). The Gillette, Wyo., native has 38 singles wins in her career entering her fourth year in the lineup.
Richert combined with Ishane Derman for a doubles bagel (6-0) at No. 2s over their Midland counterparts. Ishane later continued to roll with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Caitlin Larkin. The junior has 32 singles wins in her career.
The newcomer Seohyeon Jang competed in her first dual match and continued the fall dominance giving up only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Ai Katsura. Concordia’s new No. 1 singles player has been unbeaten in individual matches winning a GPAC individual title and the ITA NAIA central west regional in the few months on campus.
No. 1s Jang and Chakira Derman (GPAC doubles champions) took care of Larkin and Katsura (6-1) in their doubles bout. No. 2 Chakira took on Andrea Vasquez with a win in consecutive rounds (6-2, 6-0).
Jacey Powell and Nina Milic at No. 3s completed the doubles sweep over Theresa Nyhuis and Havyn Harms (6-2). No. 6 Powell saw her first meaningful action and took full advantage with a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) against Nyhuis in the final slot.
Concordia (1-0) will not compete again in the fall outside of the ITA Cup that is set to feature Jang in the national small college tournament. The bracket is set to be played from Oct. 15-18 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga.
