SEWARD, Neb. – The spring season is underway for Concordia University Women’s Tennis, which got things started against a strong NCAA Division III foe in Colorado College on Saturday (Feb. 19). The Tigers swept through singles and doubles on the way to a 7-0 blanking that occurred inside the Fieldhouse in Seward. The contest marked the first outing for the Bulldogs since this past October.

Head Coach Cam Long’s squad now owns a record of 1-2. Back in the fall, Concordia defeated Wartburg College (Iowa) and was beaten by William Jewell College (Mo.).

Said Long, “It was a very tough match today. Colorado College has a lot of talent. Obviously not satisfied to lose, but the strides we made from the fall were very evident. We didn’t beat ourselves and made Colorado College earn the victory, so that was a positive that we can continue to grow from.”

After losing at Midland, 5-2, on Friday, Colorado College (1-3) rebounded in a big way. The Tigers won every set, including several in convincing fashion. In the matchup at No. 1, the Bulldogs’ Sofia Morales was upended, 6-1, 6-2, by Christina Heffron. The rest of the Concordia singles lineup included Tara Ferrel at No. 2, Tessa Blough at No. 3, Brooke Hosick at No. 4, Megan Hakes at No. 5 and Kylie Freudenburg at No. 6.

In doubles, Colorado College gained the upper hand while winning by respective scores of 6-2 at No. 1, 6-0 at No. 2 and 6-2 at No. 3. The Bulldogs went with the same six players in both singles and doubles.

The Bulldogs will take to the road for the first time this spring when they play at Grand View University (Iowa) at 11 a.m. CT on Wednesday. The two sides last met up in February 2020 with the result being a 6-1 victory for Concordia.
