Winner takes second in rival battle versus Doane

SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Tennis is on a three-match win streak going into the final week of regular season play. With a tied GPAC record (4-1), the Bulldogs will take on Doane in Crete for the second spot in the conference standings. Following, Concordia will host College of Saint Mary in the last scheduled match of the season.

This Week

Wednesday, April 15 at Doane (9-10, 4-1 GPAC), 5 p.m.

Friday, April 17 vs. College of Saint Mary (7-2, 1-2 GPAC), 3 p.m.
--Location: Bulldog Tennis Courts (Seward, Neb.)

Head Coach Lisa Hart and company went 3-0 this past week defeating Midland (4-3), Northwestern (7-0) and Mount Marty (7-0) moving to 13-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference. Nina Milic clinched the win against Midland to earn the conference win in their tightest GPAC match. Chakira Derman and Alana Lopez Pagan went unbeaten in all three doubles and singles matches going 6-0 each. Mariana Molano went 5-1 going perfect in singles. 

The Bulldogs have reached double-figure wins this season with their best win coming against No. 19 William Woods University, 4-2. They have other big wins over Ottawa University (6-1) and the University of Saint Mary (4-1). Concordia has outscored its opponents 77-41 in points this season with a 70-30 record in singles and a 26-26 showing in paired matches. CUNE has won five of their last six.

Four Bulldogs have reached 10 wins in singles including Milic (12-4), Mariana Molano (12-5), Ishane Derman (11-4),  Alexa Richert (10-4), and Alana Lopez Pagan (10-6). Chakira Derman (9-6) finish out the starting six. Molano (50), Lopez Pagan (41) Chakira (35) and Richert (34) have some of the top career win counts for active players. The Bulldogs look to gain more as the core will try to make another postseason run.

The Bogotá, Colombia, native Molano has the career win record stretched out to 50. She will continue to make the record tougher to reach with at least five more matches coming to end her senior season. In 2025, Molano reached her highest season win total with a record of 14-6. She has played all of her matches at No. 1 except seven at No. 2, delivering a perfect 7-0 record. The Colombian has 39 wins in paired bouts and is 6-4 with Ishane, all at No. 1 in 2026.

The GPAC standings look similar to last season at the top with Morningside (5-0) in the driver’s seat to take a conference regular season title. Concordia and Doane are 4-1 with the upcoming match looks to be what will decide the second-place finish. Midland (2-2), Northwestern (2-3) and CSM (2-2) are in the top six that would currently make postseason play. The bottom of the standings are Hastings (1-3) and Mount Marty (0-6).

Upcoming Opponents

The Tigers had won six in a row before facing No. 17 Morningside (2-5) on Saturday. With a 9-10 overall record, Doane is competing to solidify second place for a second consecutive season. The Tigers lean on one of the top players in the conference, Maria Purizaca. She is ranked No. 8 in singles by ITA. The Flames are 7-2 overall and 2-2 in the GPAC. CSM is on a two-bout win streak having last defeated Mount Marty (6-1) and Midland (4-3).

Concordia will travel to Omaha, Neb., for the GPAC tournament on April 23 and 25. The Bulldogs will find out their opponents following the regular season and will compete at the Genesis Health Club in the conference playoff.
