Women's team falls to Bethel, 8-1

The Concordia University (Neb.) women’s tennis team suffered an 8-1 defeat at the hands of Bethel College on Friday, Mar. 2 in the Bulldogs season opener. The victory evened the Threshers record at 2-2 for the season.
Sophomore Katelyn Koll (Wilber, Neb.) secured the lone victory for Concordia, earning a straight set win at the No. 1 singles slot over Katie Malotte, 6-2, 6-3.
The Bulldogs return to the court on Friday, Mar. 23 as Concordia travels to Salina, Kan., for a neutral site contest against Tabor College at 3 p.m.
Egger and McCartney lead Bulldogs past Bethel, 5-4

Victories at both doubles and singles by junior Cole Eggar (Galva, Iowa) and sophomore Michael McCartney (Davenport, Iowa) helped the Concordia University (Neb.) men's tennis team slip past Bethel College, 5-4, on Friday, Mar. 2. The victory moved the Bulldogs record to 2-1 on the season, while Bethel fell to 0-2.
Eggar posted a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Patrick Loganbill in the No. 5 singles position and teamed with sophomore Nathan Wingfield (Greendale, Wis.) to earn an 8-3 victory in No. 2 doubles.
McCartney, meanwhile, bested Kristopher Dubach at the No. 6 singles slot, 7-6, 7-6. He and doubles partner, sophomore Joe Kaldahl (Spencer, Iowa), notched an 8-3 win in No. 3 doubles.
The Bulldogs return to the court on Friday, Mar. 23 as Concordia travels to Salina, Kan., for a neutral site contest against Tabor College at 3 p.m.

The Concordia University, Nebraska, men's and women's tennis teams suffered a sweep in dual matches against Tabor College on Friday, March 23 in Salina, Kan.
Following Friday's competitions, the Bulldogs' men's squad is 2-2 this season, while the women's team is 0-2.
Men's Tennis: Tabor College 6, Concordia 3
The Bulldogs best performance of the day from junior Cole Egger (Galva, Iowa) as he tallied wins in both singles and doubles play. Eggar and partner, sophomore Michael McCartney (Davenport, Iowa) earned an 8-6 over Nathan Panttaja and Samuel Brucks in the third doubles slot.
Later, Egger rolled past Jakob Brucks in the fifth singles position, 6-1, 6-1. The Bulldogs' top player, senior Jeremy Jank (Hastings, Neb.) earned the final point for Concordia with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) win over David Simmet.
Women's Tennis: Tabor College 9, Concordia 0
Playing just their second match of the season, Bulldogs women's team was overmatched by Tabor. Sophomore Katelyn Koll (Wilber, Neb.) gave Concordia a strong effort at the No. 1 position, forcing Tabor's Amanda Faber into a tiebreak in the second set before succumbing, 6-1, 7-6 (4).
Koll and doubles partner junior Lindsea Vaudt (Kalispell, Mon.) were also close in the top doubles spot, pushing Tabor's Amanda Brown and Faber push falling, 8-6
The neutral site matchup is part of the Bulldogs three match trip to Kansas this weekend as Concordia will face McPherson and Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday, March 24.

The Concordia University, Nebraska, men's tennis teams split two dual matches on Saturday, March 24 in Salina, Kan. The Bulldogs opened with a 7-2 win over host Kansas Wesleyan, then dropped a 9-0 decision to McPherson.
Following Saturday's competitions, the Bulldogs' men's squad is 3-3 this season.
Concordia 7, Kansas Wesleyan 2
The Bulldogs got off to a hot start in doubles play, taking points at the second and third positions.
The tandem of sophomore Nathan Wingfield (Greendale, Wis.) and junior Cole Egger (Galva, Iowa) breezed past Leonardo Mendez and Taylor Eastman for a dominant 8-2 win at No. 2. Moments later it was sophomores Michael McCartney (Davenport, Iowa) and Joel Kaldahl (Spencer, Iowa) downing Adam Watson and John Haynes, 8-5.
Led by straight set victories from Egger, McCartney and senior Jeremy Jank (Hastings, Neb.), the Bulldogs took five of the six singles points. Jank's 6-0, 6-3, victory at the top singles position was the most convincing.
McPherson 9, Concordia 0
Fatigue may have been a factor as the Bulldogs did not take a set against the high powered McPherson squad.
Concordia's best performance came from senior Danny Frastaci (Parma, Ohio) as he took six games from McPherson's Torsten Keil-Long, 6-4, 6-2.
The Bulldogs return home to host Doane College on Tuesday, March 27 beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs pushed Kansas Wesleyan in several of the matches on their home surface, but came up just short. Concordia's two points came by forfeit as the Bulldogs were awarded points at the sixth singles slot and the third doubles position.
Junior Lindsea Vaudt (Kalispell, Mon.) forced a third set in No. 2 singles play. Vaudt took the first set 6-4, then dropped a tough second set 5-7. With the overall match already decided a super-tiebreaker was played. Vaudt fell in that super-tiebreak 1-0 (10-8).
Concordia 5, McPherson 4
Down 2-1 following doubles play, the Bulldogs claimed the match with McPherson by taking four of the six points in singles. Vaudt and freshman Grace Hollenbeck (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) led the way with straight set victories.
Vaudt defeated McPherson's Jessica Vincent 6-3 and 6-4, while Hollenbeck earned a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win over Kara Wright.

The Concordia University, Nebraska, men's and women's tennis teams split dual matches against Doane College on Tuesday, March 27. The women's team earned a 9-0 over the Tigers, while the men's team fell 6-3
Following Tuesday's competitions, the Bulldogs' men's squad is 3-4 this season and 0-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), while the women's team is 2-3 overall and 1-0 in GPAC action.
Men's Tennis: Doane College 6, Concordia 3
Senior Danny Frastaci (Parma, Ohio) and junior Cole Egger (Galva, Iowa) notched straight set singles victories to highlight the Bulldogs' match with the Tigers. Frastaci downed Sam Timpton, 6-3, 6-1 and the second spot, while Egger bested Joe Carey, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5.
Earlier in the day, Egger teamed with sophomore Nathan Wingfield (Greendale, Wisc.) to earn a point at the second doubles slot, 8-5 over Chance Hohensee and Timpton.
Women's Tennis: Concordia 9, Doane 0
The Bulldogs took control of their match with Doane with three hard fought victories in doubles play. The tandem of freshman Elizabeth Kjellsen (Centennial, Colo.) and junior Mikaela Barz (San Antonio, Texas) delivered a 9-7 win at the third position to lift Concordia to a 3-0 lead after doubles.
In singles action, sophomore Katelyn Koll (Wilber, Neb.) and junior Lindsea Vaudt (Kalispell, Mon.) posted easy wins at the top two spots. Koll downed Elizabeth Frohman, 6-2, 6-2, while Vaudt handled Jade Patterson, 6-0, 6-3. Kjellsen and Barz also tallied straight set victories as Kjellsen defeated Jordan Lintt, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4. Barz took No. 5 singles, 6-1, 7-5 over Nicole Baranko.
Both Bulldogs teams will play in St. Louis, Mo on Friday, March 30. The men's team plays in the CIT Tournament, while the women face Greenville College at 10:30 a.m.
Bulldogs' women's team downs Greenville, falls to Missouri Baptist

The Concordia University, Nebraska, women's tennis team split matches against Greenville College and Missouri Baptist on Friday, March 30 in St. Louis, Mo.
The Bulldogs opened the day with a 5-4 win over host Greenville College, then were bested by Missouri Baptist, 6-3.
Following Friday's action the Bulldogs were 3-4 on the season, while Greenville fell to 2-6 and Missouri Baptist moved to 5-3.
Sophomore Katelyn Koll (Wilber, Neb.) led Concordia with an easy 6-2, 6-1 win over Jamie Harling at the top of singles play in the opening match against Greenville. Koll and junior Lindsea Vaudt (Kalispell, Mon.) also captured the point at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, over Greenville's Kristin and Kim Minshall.
The decisive points of the match, however, came at the fourth and fifth singles positions. Freshman Elizabeth Kjellsen (Centennial, Colo.) and junior Makaela Barz (San Antonio, Texas) each nailed down wins in a tiebreaker to secure the match. Kjellsen rallied from down a set to earn a 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6) win over Chelsie Evans. Barz, meanwhile, downed Kim Minshall 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5).
The second match against Missouri Baptist proved a bit tougher as the Bulldogs dropped five of six singles matches in their 6-3 loss. Koll earned Concordia's lone singles point, 6-1, 6-4, over Elise Beckemeier.
Concordia concludes their three-match road trip against McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill. on Saturday, March 31 at 11 a.m.
Both tennis programs close out road trip with victories

The Concordia University, Nebraska, men's and women's tennis teams closed out a weekend road trip to St. Louis, Mo. and Lebanon, Ill. with victories on Saturday, March 31.
The men's team finished the Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) with a 7-2 win over Concordia Seminary, Indiana in St. Louis. The women's team, meanwhile, defeated McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill. by the score of 5-4.
The men's team concluded the CIT Tournament with a 2-1 record and a 5-5 mark on the season, while the women's team moved to 4-4 following their win.
Senior Jeremy Jank (Hastings, Neb.) led the charge for the men's team, claiming a 6-2, 6-0 win at the number one singles position over Jeff Smith. Sophomore Nathan Wingfield (Greendale, Wis.) matched Jank's efforts with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 3 singles slot over Tim Eden.
Earlier the tandem of Wingfield and Jank claimed the second doubles point, 8-5, over Tim Meyer and Justin Sponaugle.
For the women's team it was junior Makaela Barz (San Antonio, Texas) and freshman Grace Hollenbeck (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) anchoring the victory. Barz and Hollenback nabbed an 8-2 win at the second doubles slot over Alexandria Peach and Erick Smith-Thomas.
Later in singles play, Barz earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Melanie Young at the No. 5 spot. Hollenbeck, meanwhile, needed a late rally to down Smith-Thomas 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5).
The Bulldogs' men's team returns to action on Wednesday, April 11 as Concordia travels to Omaha, Neb. to take on University of Nebraska, Omaha at 4 p.m.
Concordia's women's team and the men's squad will host Midland University on Thursday, April 12 in a Great Plains Conference matchup at 4:30 p.m.
Bulldogs downed by UNK Lopers in both men's and women's mataches

The Concordia University, Nebraska, men's and women's tennis programs each dropped a match to the University of Nebraska, Kearney, Lopers on Monday, April 16. The men's team fell, 1-8, while the women went down, 0-9.
Men's Tennis:
University of Nebraska, Kearney 8, Concordia 1
The lost dropped the Bulldogs to 5-7 on the season, while the Lopers advanced to 15-8.
Playing at the No. 6 singles position, sophomore Michael McCartney (Davenport, Iowa) defeated UNK’s Paul Stachura in a 6-4, 5-7 tie breaker in which McCartney won by a score of 1-0 (10-7). McCartney also won the most games for the bulldogs with a total of 12. This match would be the only victory for the bulldogs.
Concordia returns to action on Thursday, April 19 as the men’s tennis team will host Nebraska Wesleyan beginning at 4 p.m.
Women's Tennis:
University of Nebraska, Kearney 9, Concordia 0
The lost dropped the Bulldogs to 4-5, while UNK advance to 16-6 on the season.

Bulldogs' women bested by Nebraska Wesleyan, 6-3

The Concordia University, Nebraska, women's tennis team battled fiercely but fell to Nebraska Wesleyan, 6-3, on Wednesday, April 18 in a home Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in Seward, Neb.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 4-6 on the season and 1-1 in GPAC matches, while Nebraska Wesleyan moved to 9-8 overall and 6-0 in GPAC play.
The match began with some highly contested doubles matches. The tandem of sophomore Katelyn Koll (Wilber, Neb.) and junior Lindsea Vaudt (Kalispell, Mon.) claimed the top doubles position with an 8-6 win over Maria Mota and Andrea Dasilva.
Nebraska Wesleyan's Terah Maloley and Hannah Husmann slipped past junior Mikaela Barz (San Antonio, Tex.) and freshman Grace Hollenbeck (Wheat Ridge, Colo.), 8-7 at the No. 2 doubles slot.
The Prairie Wolves took a 2-1 lead into singles play and claimed the first two singles matches to push their lead to 4-1.
Concordia's got victories from Barz and Koll in singles play to make it 4-3, but Nebraska Wesleyan claimed the final two matches to earn the victory.
Barz earned a hard fought 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) win over Molly Andrews at the fifth singles position, while Koll defeated the Prairie Wolves' top player, Mota, 6-4, 6-4.
"Today was a good outing for Concordia. I was pleased with our effort, we lost some close one to a strong opponent," said head coach Amy Harms. "We're a young team, once we start to make the right shots, we'll win more of these close matches.
Concordia returns to the court for two matches on Saturday, April 21 as the Bulldogs play Briar Cliff and Morningside on a neutral court in Omaha, Neb.

In a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup, the Concordia University, Nebraska, women's tennis team defeated Doane College, 7-2. At the same time, the Bulldogs' men's team fell to the Tigers, 6-3, on Monday, April 23.
Following Monday's matches the women's team moved to 6-7 on the season and 2-2 in GPAC play. Doane, meanwhile, dropped to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in GPAC action.
The Concordia men's team dropped to 7-9 following the loss and 2-2 in GPAC matches. The Tigers' men's squad improved to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in GPAC play.
Women's Summary: Concordia 7, Doane 2
Sophomore Katelyn Koll (Wilber, Neb.) paved the way for the Bulldogs with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jade Patterson at the top singles spot and an 8-2 win with junior Lindsea Vaudt (Kalispell, Mon.) at the top doubles slot over Patterson and Allison Pfeifer.
Concordia freshman Grace Hollenbeck (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) was equally impressive at the No. 4 singles position, defeating Doane's Candice Crider, 6-1, 6-0. Hollenbeck teamed with junior Mikaela Barz (San Antonio, Texas) to deliver an 8-1 defeat to Nicole Baranko and Jordan Lintt at the No. 2 doubles position.
Men's Summary: Doane 6, Concordia 3

The Bulldogs women's team returns to action on April 25 at 4 p.m. as Concordia faces Hastings College in Hastings, Neb. The following day, Concordia's men's squad faces Hastings on Thursday, April 26 at 4 p.m.

The Concordia University, Nebraska, women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to Hastings College on Wednesday, April 25.
Following the loss, Concordia fell to 6-8 on the season and 2-3 in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matches. Hastings moved to 5-8 overall and 3-3 in GPAC matches.
Sophomore Katelyn Koll (Wilber, Neb.) earned the lone point for the Bulldogs, defeated Ellie Clinch at the top singles slot, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9).
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, April 27 as Concordia hosts Midland University at 4:30 p.m.
Concordia tackles Midland, collecting easy victories in men's and women's tennis

The Concordia University, Nebraska, tennis teams claimed easy victories over Midland University in the Bulldogs' final home matches of the season on Friday, April 27. The men's team downed the Warriors, 8-1. While the Bulldogs' women's team swept Midland, 9-0.
Men's Highlights
Concordia 8, Midland 1
With Friday's win, the men's team ended their regular season at 8-10 overall and 3-3 in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) action. Midland, meanwhile, fell to 0-8 on the season and 0-5 in GPAC play.
Four Bulldogs collected straight set victories and Concordia benefitted from forfeit wins at the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles slots. The straight set wins came from senior Danny Frastaci (Parma, Ohio), sophomore Nathan Wingfield (Greendale, Wis.), freshman Jonathan Heckman (Canton, S.D.) and junior Cole Egger (Galva, Iowa).
Egger delivered the most dominant win, downing David Burbach 6-0, 6-1.
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, May 4 in the opening round of the GPAC Tournament. Concordia finished the regular season as the four seed and will face No. 5 Nebraska Wesleyan (2-4 GPAC) at 9:00 a.m. in Fremont, Neb. Hosted by Midland University, the GPAC Tournament will be played on the Fremont High School Courts.
Women's Highlights

Following the win, Concordia's women's squad moved to 7-8 on the season and 3-3 in GPAC play. Midland, meanwhile, fell to 0-7-1 overall and 0-6 in conference action.
The Bulldogs disposed of the Warriors in straight sets in each of the six singles matches. Concordia limited Midland to a combined nine games on the day.
Junior Mikaela Barz (San Antonio, Texas) led the way for Concordia with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win over Midland's Tokeca Kephart at the fifth singles slot.
Marz and doubles partner, freshman Grace Hollenbeck (Wheat Ridge, Colo.), also collected an 8-1 win at the second doubles position.
The women's team will wrap up its regular season on Saturday, April 28 as the Bulldogs face Northwestern at 9:00 a.m.

The Concordia University, Nebraska, women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 defeat to Northwestern College on Saturday, April 28 to conclude the regular season.
The loss ended Concordia's season at 7-9 overall and 3-4 in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matches. Northwestern, meanwhile, moved to 9-10 on the season and 4-2 in GPAC play.
The Bulldogs fell behind 3-0 in doubles play as the Red Raiders swept all three doubles points. The tandem of junior Mikaela Barz (San Antonio, Texas) and freshman Grace Hollenbeck (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) almost broke through at the second slot, falling 9-8 (7-3) to Northwestern's Kellie Korver and Jami Koens.
Junior Lindsea Vaudt (Kalispell, Mon.) got Concordia on the board with a 6-4, 6-0 win at the No. 2 singles position over Terry Odera.
Hollenbeck and Barz used the frustration of their doubles loss to their advantage in singles play. Hollenbeck collected Concordia's second point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Koens at the fourth singles slot. Moments later, Barz defeated Hannah Stark, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
Unfortunately the Bulldogs were unable to earn another victory, falling to Northwestern 6-3.
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, May 4in the opening round of the GPAC Tournament. Concordia finished the regular season as the fifth seed and will faceNo. 4 Hastings (4-3 GPAC) at 11:30 a.m. in Fremont, Neb. Hosted by Midland University, the GPAC Tournament will be played on the Fremont High School Courts.
Bulldogs' women's team falls to Hastings in GPAC Tournament opener

The Concordia University, Nebraska, women's tennis team suffered a 5-1 loss to Hastings on Friday, May 4 in the opening round of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Tournament in Fremont, Neb.
The fifth seeded Bulldogs dug themselves a hole in doubles competition, dropping all three matches. As a result, Concordia needed to win five of the six singles matches to advance past the fourth seeded, Hastings Broncos.
Junior Mikaela Barz (San Antonio, Texas) got Concordia off to a strong start with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Sarah Zach at the No. 5 slot, but losses by freshmen Elizabeth Kjellsen (Centennial, Colo.) and Abby Urbanek (Crete, Neb.) at the third and sixth positions ended Concordia's chances.
The loss ended Concordia's season at 7-10 overall, while Hastings advanced to the second round of the GPAC Tournament with a 7-8 record. Hastings also defeated Concordia in their GPAC conference match earlier this season as the Broncos won that matchup, 8-1, on April 10.

The stellar play of eight members of the Concordia University, Nebraska, tennis programs were recognized on Thursday, May 10 with All-GPAC selection.
Four players from each team were recognized with All-GPAC selection as seniors Danny Frastaci (Parma, Ohio) and Jeremy Jank (Hastings, Neb), junior Cole Egger (Galva, Iowa) and sophomore Nathan Wingfield (Greendale, Wis.) nabbed the honor for the men's team. Receiving honors for the women were juniors Lindsea Vaudt (Kalispell, Mon.) and Mikaela Barz (San Antonio, Texas), sophomore Katelyn Koll (Wilber, Neb.) and freshman Grace Hollenbeck (Wheat Ridge, Colo.).
Frastaci and Wingfield were named to the All-GPAC team in singles, while Jank and Eggar received Honorable Mention in singles. Frastaci and Wingfield both led Concordia with a 4-2 record in GPAC matches.
The team of Eggar and Wingfield nabbed a spot on the All-GPAC doubles team with a 3-3 record in GPAC matches, while the tandem of Jank and Frastaci earned Honorable Mention.
Koll was the lone women's player to earn a spot on the All-GPAC team in singles play, while Hollenbeck and Barz received Honorable Mention in singles. Koll was 6-1 in GPAC matches this season at the top singles position and was recognized as the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for April 16 – 22.
Koll and doubles partner Vaudt record of 5-2 in conference matches earned the duo a spot on the All-GPAC doubles team.
Two Bulldogs named 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Women’s Tennis Scholar Athletes

Two members of the Concordia University, Nebraska, women's program showed excellence in the classroom earning a spot on the 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete list, announced on Friday, May 18.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
