Sofia Morales again landed All-GPAC singles and doubles recognition at the No. 1 position while teammate Tessa Blough also was named an all-conference performer. Morales went 6-1 in GPAC singles matches in 2022.
The 2022 season is in the books after the Bulldogs endured a 4-0 loss at the hands of College of Saint Mary in the GPAC Quarterfinals on Friday (April 29). As the No. 5 seed in the GPAC, Concordia finished with an overall record of 6-11.
As the No. 5 seed in the GPAC tournament, the Bulldogs will take on fourth-seeded College of Saint Mary in the quarterfinals on Friday. All matches have been moved indoors due to projected rain in the forecast.
In the final home match of her career, Megan Hakes earned a singles win and helped the Bulldogs to a 5-2 team victory over Nebraska Wesleyan. The result puts Concordia with six overall wins heading into the GPAC tournament.
In the close to the GPAC regular season, the Bulldogs fell at Doane by a 6-1 score. As a highlight for Concordia, Sofia Morales won at No. 1 singles and doubles. Concordia will enter the postseason at 3-4 in GPAC play.
A fine week at No. 1 singles and doubles allowed Sofia Morales to claim the GPAC Player of the Week award for the second time in her career. The native of Bogotá, Colombia, has gone 6-1 this season in GPAC singles matches.
As part of the regular season's final week, Concordia will play a nonconference match against Nebraska Wesleyan and complete the suspended match with Doane. Thursday will be senior night.
A 6-1 decision over Hastings on Wednesday (April 13) put the Bulldogs back in the win column and solidified a spot in the GPAC tournament. Five Concordia players won in both singles and doubles.
By the middle of this week, the Bulldogs will have wrapped up the GPAC regular season home slate. Concordia looks to make a push in the standings while playing at Doane and at Hastings in back-to-back days.
The Bulldogs had their hands full on Saturday (April 9) as they went up against GPAC favorite Midland and fell, 7-0. The bright spot for Concordia was a win at No. 1 doubles by Sophia Morales and Tessa Blough.
The 2016 Bulldogs were made up of almost exclusively freshmen and sophomores. A year later, Coach Joel Reckewey has a much more experienced roster led by the likes of Alison Ebel, Annie Horn and Kayla Smock.
Despite the young athletes on the Concordia women’s tennis team, the Bulldogs proved to be a GPAC contender in the 2016 season. The team, made up of freshmen and sophomores, went 5-3 in the conference this year.
