SEWARD, Neb. – One of four Bulldogs to earn the award in 2018-19, junior Cameron Devers has been named the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Wrestler of the Week, as announced by the conference on Wednesday (Feb. 6). GPAC weekly honors this season have also been captured by teammates Alberto Garcia (Nov. 21), Deandre Chery (Dec. 12) and Michael Stann (Dec. 19). Devers has earned the award for the first time in his career.
Devers’ came through with the headlining victory in last week’s 28-10 team dual win at Northwestern. While bumping up a weight to 149 pounds, the native of Holly Springs, N.C., topped the NAIA’s 19th-ranked 149-pounder Dante Preciado, 4-3, in sudden victory. Preciado earned All-America honors at the 2017 national championships. Devers has now moved to 13-12 overall (6-6 duals). Devers is ranked fifth in the GPAC at 141 pounds.
Head coach Levi Calhoun’s squad will be back in action on Thursday to host Morningside (6-1 GPAC) in a dual set for 7 p.m. CST inside Walz Arena. At 7-0 in GPAC duals, Concordia can claim the outright conference dual title with a victory.
