SEWARD, Neb. – The 2018-19 Concordia University wrestling schedule has been finalized, as of Friday (July 6). The first season of Levi Calhoun’s tenure as head coach will get started with the Dan Harris Open on Nov. 4, one of 16 dates on the slate, not including postseason events such as the GPAC Wrestling Championships and the NAIA Wrestling National Championships.

The Bulldogs will dual all eight GPAC opponents once, will also host Benedictine College (Kan.) on Dec. 7 (first home appearance of the season) and then compete at the GPAC/Cascade Duals in Chandler, Ariz., on Dec. 16. Concordia will go head-to-head with four conference foes at the GPAC Duals on Jan. 26 in Seward. Additionally, the Bulldogs are scheduled to appear at eight tournaments prior to the GPAC (Feb. 16) and national championships (March 1-2).

Due to having the luxury of hosting at one of the GPAC Duals sites, Concordia will have five GPAC home duals and just three on the road – at Dakota Wesleyan on Nov. 9, at Midland on Nov. 15 and at Northwestern on Jan. 31. The Bulldogs will conclude the regular season with a visit from Morningside on Feb. 7. Concordia will learn of its opponents at the GPAC/Cascade Duals at a later date. Benedictine, a member of the Heart of America Athletic Conference, placed 25th at the 2018 national championships.

Calhoun was promoted to the head coaching position on April 11. He takes over a program that placed fifth in the GPAC dual standings, fourth at the GPAC tournament championships and 22nd at the NAIA national championships in 2017-18. Two of last season’s three national qualifiers return in the form of Deandre Chery and Chris Kimball. Concordia will seek to return to the success it enjoyed from 2014-17 when it put together three GPAC championship seasons in a row.
