Williams, Joseph, and Heesch post strong showings at Cornell Invite

The 13th-ranked Bulldog wrestling team finished 10th at the Cornell Wrestling Invite on Saturday.  Concordia finished with a team score of 40.5 in the event.  Jacob Williams, Adam Joseph, and Dillon Heesch all finished in the top six of their respective weight classes for the Bulldogs on the day. 

Williams (Rio Rancho, N.M.) finished third in the 133-pound weight class.  Williams won his first match of the day by fall over David Rosenau (UW-Oshkosh).  He then picked up a 9-2 decision over Brad Jones of Luther.  Tigue Snider (Cornell College) then defeated Williams by decision.  Williams, however, picked up a pair of wins to end the day in third place.  He defeated Michael Berardesco (Buena Vista) by fall and then secured a hard fought 9-7 decision over teammate Adam Joseph in the third place match. 

Joseph (Hastings, Neb.), the current top ranked wrestler at 133-pounds, defeated Andrew Boehm (Stevens Inst. Of Tech) by decision and then secured another decision over Marcus Rivera Ingalls (Dubuque) to move to 2-0 on the day.  Joseph then lost a tough one (6-5 decision) to Jordan Westfall (Coe College).  Joseph responded with a 10-2 major decision over Braxton Chiccelly (Wartburg) to advance to the third place match, where he dropped the 9-7 decision to teammate Jake Williams. 

Heesch (Dayton, Iowa) picked up a pair of wins by fall to open his day.  He defeated Thomas Tourdot (Luther) by fall in 2:07 and the defeated Carl Gaul (Cornell College) by fall in 2:44.  Conner Herman (Luther) handed Heesch a loss by decision (7-3), but the sophomore responded to win his next two matches to finish third.  Heesch picked up a major decision over Matthew Sefcik (Buena Vista) and then bested Tyler Maher (Stevens Inst. of Tech) in his final match of the day.

Complete results are attached above.  The Bulldogs take on York College in a dual on January 19.  Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in York.
