SEWARD, Neb. – Representing Concordia University Wrestling, Mario Ybarra has been selected as a 2020-21 Academic All-District® At-Large Team member. College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the at-large honorees on Thursday (July 8). The category includes student-athletes from wrestling and a variety of other sports. Ybarra landed on the All-District 3 squad, which features award winners from the states of Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Also recently named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), Ybarra studies computer science. This past season, Ybarra went 15-3 overall and placed seventh in the 133-pound bracket at the NAIA National Championships. Ybarra (Scottsbluff, Neb.) has twice qualified for nationals and owns a career record of 62-25. He won the 125-pound GPAC title as a sophomore in 2020. Ybarra has garnered some form of all-conference mention in each of his three seasons. Ybarra is the program’s first-ever CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early August.
