Chery picks up GPAC weekly award

For the second time this season, the Concordia wrestling program has earned a GPAC weekly award. Junior Deandre Chery is the latest winner after his runner-up finish at the Doane Open.

  • It took only 24 minutes for the Concordia wrestling team to polish off a 51-6 win over Benedictine in the home opener on Friday night (Dec. 7). The Bulldogs won three of the four contested matches, including two by pin.

  • After more than two weeks without a competition, the Concordia wrestling team is getting set to return to action on Friday. The Bulldogs will welcome Benedictine in their first home appearance of the season.

  • A championship run at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Open has led to an award for Alberto Garcia. The native of Escondido, Calif., has been named the GPAC Wrestler of the Week (Nov. 21).

  • Alberto Garcia made quite a splash in his Bulldog debut. The transfer from Palomar College defeated four NCAA opponents on his way to a 133-pound title at the UNK Open. Concordia combined for 23 wins on the day.

  • After trailing 17-3, the Concordia wrestling team came all the way back for a 21-17 dual win at Midland on Thursday (Nov. 15). The Bulldogs won the final four matches while moving to 2-0 in GPAC action.

  • A challenging dual awaits on Thursday when the Concordia wrestling program will be at defending GPAC tournament champion Midland. Head coach Levi Calhoun's crew will also be at the UNK Open on Saturday.

  • It was another strong weekend for the likes of Deandre Chery, Michael Stann, Mario Ybarra and others representing Concordia wrestling. The Bulldogs pummeled Dakota Wesleyan, 58-0, in Friday's dual before shifting to tournament action.

  • The dual season will get started Friday in Mitchell, S.D., for the Concordia wrestling team. The Bulldogs will then stick around town for the Dakota Wesleyan Open on Saturday.
