Homeschooled but competed in athletics at Earlham High School (Iowa) … coached by Chris Caskey … competed in track & field for four years and lettered three times … qualified for state in the long jump, shuttle hurdle and sprint medley … as a senior, placed 10th in the shuttle hurdle and fifth in the sprint medley (with a school record) … helped the Cardinals to three district titles and to state place finishes of third and second, respectively … played football for four years and helped the Cardinals to two conference championships and to the second round of the state playoffs twice … named honorable mention all-conference in football … garnered two academic all-state football awards.
